Programme Description

If you are interested in one or more of the following industries: plant commodity and manufacturing, disease prevention and treatment, healthcare and medical diagnostic, environment protection and conservation, pharmaceutical, food science and nutrition, industrial bio-processing and manufacturing, then it is just the very right time for you to consider taking up Biotechnology and Life Sciences studies at INTI in collaboration with various universities overseas.
The studies will equip you with necessary knowledge and research skills for a biotechnology related career and to be competent to ride the biotechnology wave for wealth creation as well as for contribution to the well being of mankind. People who make appearances at the right place and at the right time will be able to reap the maximum benefits provided by the Government, who is now pushing very hard for biotechnology.
The Australian Degree Transfer Programme enables students to pursue their studies at INTI for at least one year. Upon successful completion and meeting the minimum requirement, students can transfer to one of INTI's partner universities in Australia, New Zealand or UK.
In Australia, the partner universities are prestigious names like University of Adelaide, University of New South Wales, Swinburne University of Technology and Queensland University of Technology, whereas in New Zealand, there are the University of Otago and Massey University. University of Sunderland, University of Southampton and Northumbria Univeristy in UK are also INTI's partners.

This kind of collaborative arrangement enables students to gain international learning experiences as well as become conversant with the local needs.

Biotechnology Programme

The Biotechnology programme provides training in a series of enabling technologies involving the practical applications of organisms or their cellular components to manufacturing and service industries, and environmental management. It spans a veriety of activities, from optimization of processes such as those involved in producing antiviotics, vaccines, monoclonal antibodies and genetically engineered transgenic plants and animals, to carrying out gene therapy, improving water and land management, and remediating pollution.

Biomedical Science

The Biomedical Science programme allows students to specialise in scientific areas realted to the normal functions or diseases of humans. Students learn how the body operates at a cellular and whole organ level and gain an understanding of current medical research aimed at improving diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of disease.

Molecular Biology

The Molecular Biology programme explores the fundamental processes of life at the molecular level. It investigates the blueprint of life using powerful methods of recombinant DNA technology which allows genes to be purified, sequences read and altered, and the genes reintroduced into individual cells, tissues and even into the germ line of animals and plants. The knowledge generated promises major advancement in the fields of medicine, agriculture, industry, and environment conservation.

Career Prospects

Life Science graduates can pursue careers in medical or research laboratories, hospitals, private industries, the pharmaceutical industry, sports clinics, the biotechnology industry, forensic science, food science and nutrition, cardiac technology, rehabilitation, chiropractics, and teaching.

Biotechnology graduates find careers in pharmeceutical and medical diagnostic technology, plant and animal breeding and the development of genetically modified organisms. Biotechnology offers rewarding and well paid careers in these emerging technologies that will transform health-care, food production and environmental management in the next century.

Because of the human perspective in core courses, the Biomedical Science programme is a good foundation for those who wish to work in a clinical setting as a hospital scientist of in other areas of public health. Other career paths include working as reseach scientists in biomedical reserach programs, the pharmaceutical industry, or in biomedical aspects of biotechnology.

Graduates of the Molecular Biology degree are ideally suited to careers in molecular biology research through universities and other research institutes. They may also follow career paths into various industries based on molecular biology including the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and agricultural production industries. Other careers are available in medical laboratories, hospitals, forensic science and teaching.
